EcoSys-2 is a fully field portable mass
spectrometer system, which can easily be carried by an individual operator which
retains the functionality of a large laboratory based system. The highly durable
plastic enclosure contains sufficient space for a laptop PC.
The system comes complete with a very powerful, yet
easy to use software package, which offers fully quantitative analysis and has
the capability to monitor up to 64 species in real time. In addition to this,
EcoSys 2 also identifies unknown compounds and offers detection levels down to
ppb levels. The System can also operate in fully remote, unmanned mode by the
use of a single telephone or cell phone connection. This link allows for
control, servicing, and two-way file transfer.
Comprehensive I/O facilities means that other
parameters (e.g. Temperature) can also be monitored in relation to gas
composition change, and the range of accessories available with EcoSys 2
includes battery pack, vehicle power adapter, GPS, and liquid sampling probe.
Over thirty man-years of expertise have gone into
the design of EcoSys- the benchmark that sets the standard in low cost portable
systems.
EcoSys-P System. Complete system, comprising the
following:
200D Mass Spectrometer system. The analyser is equipped with Gas tight Enclosed Ion Source
and twin filaments. The ion source is of open design with low out-gassing
characteristics. The mass filter is 100mm in length and provides excellent
resolution and transmission. Detection is made by dual Faraday cup / electron
multiplier assembly, and the analyser is mounted on a 70mm conflat flange which
bolts directly onto a high quality stainless steel analyser housing.
The analyser housing is pumped by a high
compression turbomolecular pump, which has an inbuilt molecular drag stage. The
speed of the pump is 70 l/s, and this is backed by an oil free dry membrane
pump, which means that the system is completely oil free and can be operated in
any attitude. A bakeout jacket fitted to the analyser housing ensures that
background levels are kept to an absolute minimum.
Internal full range pressure gauge fitted that can
be read by software.
The standard inlet system is a capillary inlet
arrangement, which is 1.2 metres in length. This offers a very fast response, in
the region of 50 mS, and provides true real time measurements. Gas consumption
of the inlet is 25 ml min. The inlet is easily replaced.
Analyser electronics are of the latest state of the
art “Smart Head” design, which houses the power supply, RF Generator, and
amplifier in a single compact unit, which couple directly onto the analyser
head, thus minimising microphonic noise. Connection to the computer is made by
RS232 link.

Software:
EcoSys-P is equipped with a very powerful yet easy
to use software package. The main modes of the software package are as follows:
Survey Mode: This is a scanning mode, which is
ideal for detection of unknown compounds over a range of masses. The compounds
are instantly displayed as a function of mass number and intensity, and for ease
of operation, a library reference of 100 spectra (which can also be user
expanded) is available on-screen. In the data review mode, the scans can be
reviewed against time; to enable identification of any time related trend in the
process being monitored.
Concentration Logging. This is a very powerful mode
allows up to 64 individual compounds to be monitored as a trend against real
time. This mode displays the data directly as concentrations ( %, ppm, ppb) for
the individual compounds. Full flexibility of scan times, data storage etc. is
available.
Multiple Ion Trend: This mode is the same as
concentration logging, except the data is displayed as a function of ion current
against time. This is useful in instances where a calibration gas is not
available.
Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) allows the live, direct
transfer of data into other Windows programs such as Excel, to allow live
spreadsheets and reports to be prepared.
Data Review package.
The
software incorporates a comprehensive data review facility, which includes ASCII
conversion, comprehensive data review and manipulation, library reference and
peak integration, together with statistical analysis.
